Meet Ava

Meet Ava George Stewart: The Change Cook County Needs
Justice isn’t just a word to Ava George Stewart—it’s her life’s work. A fierce advocate, educator, and trailblazer, Ava has spent her career fighting for fairness and broadening access to justice throughout Illinois. Now, she’s running to bring that same unwavering commitment to the bench as a Cook County judge—and she needs your help to get there.
A Leader Who Walks the Walk
Ava isn’t just talking about justice; she’s been delivering it for decades. As both a private practice attorney and prosecutor, she’s seen the system from all sides. As a law professor at UIC, she’s shaping the next generation of advocates. And long before she earned her law degree, she was on the frontlines, leading nonprofits that served homeless women, children, and families in the city and suburbs.
Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges
Ava was elected to the Illinois State Bar Association’s Board of Governors in Cook County, where she rose to leadership as Secretary and Treasurer. She’s fought for broader access to justice, mentored young attorneys, and championed the rights of girls and women through organizations like the Women Everywhere, where she now serves as Board President.
A Fighter for Her Community
Ava’s dedication doesn’t stop at the courthouse steps. She’s a:
-
Cook County Master Gardener promoting sustainability
-
Advocate for some of the most vulnerable residents in Illinois as a Member of the Illinois Guardianship & Advocacy Commission
-
Proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
-
Board member of Chicago’s Green City Market
For over 20 years, she and her husband, Alistair, have called Chicago’s Near Northside home.
Why This Race Matters
Cook County deserves a judge who understands the real-world impact of the law, someone with Ava’s depth of experience, compassion, and a champion for access to justice. But she can’t do this alone.
